CHEYENNE BOTTOMS/QUIVIRA NWR
JUNE 20-22, 2003

Here are a couple of quick pics from the Burroughs field trip to Cheyenne Bottoms and Quivira NWR. These images are sized down for use on a web site.

We finished with just over 100 species, including many great looks at nesting species and their young.

The Wood Stork: Various members of our party (depending on arrival and departure times) saw the bird Friday night, Saturday morning and early Sunday.

This shot was taken with a Nikon Coolpix 4500 with a 3X teleconverter.

The Wood Stork was fairly tame, sticking close to the road inside the wildlife loop, but people are reporting that it often scares when the snowy egrets that it hangs around with are spooked.

This shot was taken with the Coolpix attached to our B&L 77MM scope with a 20x wide angle eyepiece.

Reddish Egret starting a feeding period. The photo was shot using the same basic digiscoping setup as above (bird is about 200 yards away).

Another picture of the egret feeding.

Click on the picture below for a 20 second Real Video clip of the Reddish Egret (1.56Mb).

This was shot using a Sony Digital 8mm video camera (25x optical zoom), hand held up to the B&L scope (20x wide angle eyepiece).

One of the other beautiful birds that we saw during the trip. This American Golden Plover was seen at Cheyenne Bottoms.
